Where Is Considered A Holiday?

Easter Day is considered a state holiday in Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales. It is also considered a holiday in many other places in the world. Everywhere else, it is considered an observation. Easter always falls on a Sunday, so many government offices would already be closed. However, most local stores will be closed as well. Public transportation will run on a holiday schedule, or not at all. There will be the occasional family-run store open, but not much else. This is another reason many people choose to take a short vacation instead of staying home.

Festivities & Events During

Easter Day is celebrated in a variety of ways. There are often festivals in smaller places. There are always sermons being held in Church, to feel closer to the story of Christ. But, largely, many families prefer to just spend time together. Easter follows Good Friday and comes a day before Easter Monday. This means Easter Day is in the middle of a four day weekend. For this, many families take a trip to see relatives from out of town. Or, they pack up and take a vacation to celebrate themselves. A common way to celebrate Easter day is with a large meal and family. There are cultural festivities that take place, such as the Blessing of the Fleet Festival in Ulladulla. Sydney has something called the "Sydney Royal Easter Show". Plus, there is a multitude of sporting events that occur during Easter Day. When it comes to setting your holiday planner, make sure to look into all the options!
